The mirror-neuron system: a Bayesian perspective.

Is it possible to understand the intentions of other people by simply observing their movements? Many neuroscientists believe that this ability depends on the brain's mirror-neuron system, which provides a direct link between action and observation. Precisely how intentions can be inferred through movement-observation, however, has provoked much debate. One problem in inferring the cause of an ...

نورون های آینه ای و نقش آن درتقلید و نظریه ی ذهن در کودکان طیف اتیسم

Recent studies have reported the discovery of a group of neurons in the motor cortex of the brain's gray. These neurons are called mirror neurons. Rizzolatti and colleagues in 1990s discovered the first mirror neuron system in monkeys in the University of Parma. Mirror neurons in brain are responsible for understanding the actions and intentions of others. The mirror neuron system has an import...

Assessing human mirror activity with EEG mu rhythm: A meta-analysis.

A fundamental issue in cognitive neuroscience is how the brain encodes others' actions and intentions. In recent years, a potential advance in our knowledge on this issue is the discovery of mirror neurons in the motor cortex of the nonhuman primate. These neurons fire to both execution and observation of specific types of actions. Researchers use this evidence to fuel investigations of a human...

The role of mirroring and mentalizing networks in mediating action intentions in autism

BACKGROUND The ability to interpret agents' intent from their actions is a vital skill in successful social interaction. However, individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have been found to have difficulty in attributing intentions to others. The present study investigated the neural mechanisms of inferring intentions from actions in individuals with ASD. METHODS Functional magnetic r...

Grasping the Intentions of Others with One's Own Mirror Neuron System

Understanding the intentions of others while watching their actions is a fundamental building block of social behavior. The neural and functional mechanisms underlying this ability are still poorly understood. To investigate these mechanisms we used functional magnetic resonance imaging. Twenty-three subjects watched three kinds of stimuli: grasping hand actions without a context, context only ...
